A Youth-led team helping shape the future of Better Active Oldham.

The Young Leaders Network is shaped by young people, for young people. Our Young Leaders Network specific logo was created by one of our talented Young Leaders, Malakai, showcasing the creativity and ownership at the heart of the programme. This network gives young people a real platform to lead, share their ideas, and influence positive change.

The Young Leaders Network gives young people a platform to share their ideas, influence decisions, and help shape the future of Better Active Oldham. We believe young people should be at the heart of everything we do — from planning new activities to making sure our projects reflect what matters most to them. This network ensures their voices are heard, valued, and acted upon.

The programme helps young people build confidence, communication, and leadership skills through hands-on experience. Young Leaders will take part in meetings, support events, and help deliver activities across Oldham. Each member is encouraged to develop their own strengths, explore new opportunities, and learn what it means to lead with responsibility, empathy, and creativity.

Our Young Leaders don’t just take part — they make a difference. From helping design inclusive sports sessions to promoting positive change in their neighbourhoods, they play an active role in shaping a healthier, more connected Oldham. Through teamwork and shared purpose, they learn that their ideas can truly impact others and build a better community for everyone.
Young Leaders take an active role in shaping the direction of Better Active Oldham. From brainstorming ideas to co-leading activities, they help turn creative thinking into real projects that benefit young people and families across Oldham.
This programme helps members grow in confidence and self-belief. By taking on small leadership roles, presenting ideas, and supporting others, Young Leaders develop a strong sense of independence and responsibility.
Young Leaders represent the views of local young people, helping to ensure every idea and concern is heard. They work with staff and volunteers to make activities more inclusive, accessible, and relevant to their peers.
From teamwork and communication to planning and organisation, Young Leaders gain hands-on experience that supports both personal and academic growth. These skills prepare them for future opportunities in education, work, and community life.
By being positive role models, Young Leaders encourage others to get involved, try new things, and stay active. They help create a welcoming, friendly environment where everyone feels valued and included.
Young Leaders leave a legacy. Through their creativity and commitment, they help design and deliver projects that make Oldham a more vibrant, supportive, and active place for young people and families to grow together.

Young Leaders will meet twice per month for structured group discussions, planning, and reflection sessions. Additional time may be required for short video calls when working on ongoing projects. This helps ensure every voice is heard and each member has a meaningful role.
Members will gain real leadership experience by helping shape programmes, supporting delivery, and contributing to decision-making. Throughout the year, Young Leaders will also work towards certificates and recognised awards that help build their skills and future opportunities.
Young Leaders will have access to special educational trips, workshops, and learning experiences that build confidence, teamwork, and awareness. Incentives and rewards will be offered throughout the programme to celebrate commitment, growth, and positive contributions.
Young Leaders are treated as equals within the organisation, working alongside staff and volunteers to influence real change. Every member will be provided with a team uniform, promoting pride, equality, and a shared identity within the leadership group.
To ensure every young person receives the right support and their voice is genuinely heard, the programme offers limited spaces. This allows for meaningful involvement, personalised support, and a safe environment where ideas can grow. Recruitment takes place annually.
Young Leaders will help design, develop, and improve community projects that support children, families, and local areas across Oldham. By contributing their ideas, they play a direct role in creating activities that are inclusive, inspiring, and led by youth voice.
